Sofia Robinson

Undergraduate Intern

Sofia Marie Robinson is a fourth-year undergraduate student at The Pennsylvania State University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Health with a minor in African American Studies. She serves as the Africana Research Center’s first undergraduate intern for the 2026–2027 academic year, supporting the center’s outreach, marketing, and community engagement initiatives to increase the visibility of Africana research and scholarship.
Her academic interests in African American Studies center around the historical resistance of Black women, particularly the various forms of resistance used to challenge social, political, and educational barriers. She is also interested in exploring the historical contributions of Black and Puerto Rican scientists and healthcare professionals, examining how their achievements have shaped scientific advancement despite systemic barriers to recognition and representation. Additionally, she hopes to further explore the ongoing efforts of Black scholars and professionals to increase representation and opportunities within scientific and healthcare fields.
Outside of African American Studies, Sofia’s interests extend to public health, health equity, and addressing health disparities within historically underserved communities. She is particularly passionate about improving healthcare accessibility in urban communities through culturally responsive care, health education, and community-based interventions. Through her academic studies and campus involvement, she hopes to bridge her interests in history, community advocacy, and healthcare while pursuing a career as a healthcare professional dedicated to serving underrepresented populations.
