The Africana Research Center (ARC) provides co-sponsorship for cultural and/or scholarly programming that foster diversity and an increased understanding and appreciation of the history, life, and culture of African diasporic peoples.
We welcome applications on a rolling basis during the fall and spring semesters and will consider funding based on the center’s most current budget allotments. Official student organizations and academic and administrative units may apply for up to $500 in support. Requests for co-sponsorships over $500 should be submitted in the fiscal year before sponsorship. Programming must advance the ARC’s mission. An organization may receive only one co-sponsorship award per year.
Award Conditions
- Funding Range: Award limits are usually $250 for a single speaker and $500 for a program. Additional amounts may be approved occasionally for a major conference.
- Use of Funds: Funds normally may be used to cover a portion or all of a speaker’s honorarium (see Responsibilities of Sponsoring Group guidelines below) or travel and lodging. Other expenditures require special approval.
- Funding Limitations: The event at which a speaker or speakers are featured must be free and open to the public. If the speaker or panel is part of a large fee-based program such as a conference requiring paid registration, the specific lecture co-sponsored by the Africana Research Center must be free and open to the public. These funds may not be used for expenses related to classroom presentations or non-academic events.
- Time of Submission: Application for funding from the ARC must be made at least 3 weeks before the event.
